Quilt Wrangling

Just to cheer myself on for a good day 1 of 2018.  I wrangled with that quilt and got the  binding on.

Now, I think I might go and read a book.

Happy New Year

Bring on the new year.  It has to got to better than the last year.  The only thing I accomplished was getting my broken leg healed.  Still have pain but it is bearable and I can live with that.

So...my goal this year is to sew everyday.  In the absence of sewing I will cut out a project.  Table toppers are good for that kind of thing.  I picked up the latest issue of Modern Patchwork and, as usual, I was inspired to create.  There is one project I have in mind to do this year.  Soon I hope.

This goal is not lofty but you know things like cleaning, grocery shopping, my Treasurer duties for my HOA do tend to get in the way.

Busy week this week.  My modern guild is meeting Thursday night and my traditional guild is meeting Friday morning.  I will have to wrap my head around switching gears from modern to traditional in the span of 12 hours!!!

I have to learn all over again to add pictures.  That will be another challenge.

I need to put the binding on my brother-in-law’s quilt.  Top priority and maybe, today.

I do need to make my list of projects for the year.  I need to clean out stuff that I know I will never finish.  I can’t stop buying fabric.  That would just be ridiculous.

I need to walk more.  I have been wearing my Fitbit daily.  I just need the exercise and I also need to get walking faster.  I have not been able to walk fast since I recovered.  It is weird.

Well I think that is my start to 2018.  I will try to blog more just so I can cheer myself on!

It has been awhile

2017 has been a memorable year.  Not in the best way possible but we are all still alive and kicking.

I have a difficult time remembering to blog and when I want to I seem to have lost all technological sense and cannot get into the blog. Trust me, getting here today was no easy feat.  I may be rethinking this blog and trying something new even if I am the only one reading it!!!

So since I last wrote anything....I joined two quilt guilds.  One is an MQG and the other a traditional guild.  Seriously saved my sanity.  I was loving life until the end of June when I went on a planned 4 week vacation.  3 days in, I broke my leg and ended up in the hospital with resulting surgery.  Can you spell FUN?  No, neither could I.  Then in September we had a hurricane.  Irma.  She wreaked havoc and we were singled out as one of her victims.  At least my house was still standing.  Damaged but standing.

So sparing you all the gory details...there was no sewing going on for months.  I had to learn how to walk all over again so I was tied up with rehab.  Plus, all my porch furniture was barricading my sewing space.  So...no sewing.  I was a bit of a caged lion for a while.

Within the last two weeks, our contractor rebuilt our screen room and I was able to get things back in working order.  I did start back to my Quilt Guilds in October so I am happy about that.   I made a BOM block for the traditional Guild.  Woohoo!  I sewed!!!

Probably one of the most important things I learned during my forced confinement was that I need to focus on myself.  I'm struggling with this because it is very difficult to do.  So I have decided that I need to make a serious commitment to do this.

It is not the best of times to initiate all kinds of changes but I am going to start to clean up my space so that I can sit down an do some form of quilting everyday beginning in 2018.  I had so many grand plans this year and with all the stuff that happened not one homemade gift will be given.  That makes me sad but I will look forward to planning better next year.

I've got so much stuff (that I know I do not need or will ever use) but I have now found that there are some resources for me to donate some things and I plan to do that.  My traditional guild is looking for specific sizes of fabric (10", 5", etc.) and with my stash I can help them out.  So that will be on the list for scrappiness leaving my house to go into charity quilts.  They also have a recycle table and people donate money when they pick things up.  Good deal for the Guild and good deal for me!!!   I've got stuff for them!!!

Tonight is my MQG holiday party.  Looking forward to that and Friday is the traditional Guild's holiday party.  Busy week!!!!

Well...all for now.  Hopefully I will be able to easily get back on to this blog and post.  If nothing else it can be my diary!  HA!!!

Whose wine, what wine, where the hell have I been?

Okay...dust bunnies!!!  Move along.

I cannot believe how long it has been since I have been here.  Months and months.  I have been working very hard to come back to quilting.  Some ups and downs, some progress.  I'm actually contemplating moving the blog over to a different format as I sometimes have so much trouble actually getting here.  It used to be easy but now it is a pain.

In January, I took a class at my LQS (The Quilt Place in Rockledge, FL is a lovely, lovely place to be) with Gudrun Erla.  Then in February I hopped on the Drop and Give Me Twenty train to finish the quilt top, which is to be a gift for my brother-in-law.  Okay...fell off the train and the darn thing still isn't done but I have made progress.

Went on a cruise in March.  That was FUN!!!

I went home to NH in June to visit.  My mom and I did some sewing and we did bindings on a couple of charity quilts.  I forgot how much I missed the therapeutic nature of this.  So much.  I started a little group here in my community in July.  So far we've met twice.  I have two more dates set and in September we'll probably settle into once a month.  It seems to have struck a chord with people who don't even know how to thread a needle!!!  Do you think there is a need for socialization here?  Don't answer...it is too obvious.  Lots of lonely gals!

I made a table topper for my friend's birthday.  She turned 50, loves Halloween.  I cannot believe I did not get it done yet.  Her birthday was the 10th.  She's seen it, she loves it and it will be my goal to finish it this week.  If I can get back here easily enough, I'll have pictures.

I need to make two or three more table toppers for our annual Autumn Bazaar.  That is in November.  I know how fast I can get things done because I time myself.  Doable.  I also need to make something for the raffle table.  Also doable.

My wonderful friend, Nancy, told me I needed to sign up for the Teal Mini Swap.  So I did.  I had been contemplating and I just needed a push over the mountain.  It is good.  I will be looking forward to my swap partner's info and get that done.  I have never been a slacker in swaps.  I might freak out but I have always followed through.   I cannot commit to my own self though.  haha  Might need to work on it.

The Teal Mini Swap is on Facebook.  Check it out.  A $15.00 entry fee with $10.00 going to Ovarian Cancer Research.  The other $5.00 cover shipping from Beth.  Signups until August 29th.  I'm looking forward to it.

PS:  That train I fell off is also run by Beth!  A rock star!!!

That's it for today.  Cannot believe I am actually here.  Hope you are all having a fun productive day.

Pictures!!!!

Welcome to my mess!

As you can see below, there is a vanity and a linen cabinet sitting in the middle of the floor!!!  To be moved by end of weekend.  Tomorrow, more than likely.

Too much stuff I have!!!!

Now...this last little thing!  I should have finished this.  It is a candle mat or mug rug or plant mat.  It has been sitting on the sewing machine for about 3 weeks now.  A quick project that got lost in the holiday madness, I guess!  It will get finished.

Well, this took me a bit of time to figure out.  Windows 10...not a big fan of it.

Oh and my room is yellow now.  We did get that painted when the hubby replaced all our windows back in September and October.  We're always doing something here.  Trying to drag the place into the 21st century.

Anyway, my friends...have a Happy and Pieceful New Year!

2015: It's A Wrap

Well, thank the heavens above that this year is coming to a close.  It has actually been a busy 2 years with lots of changes.  It takes me time to adjust and I guess I won't be ashamed to admit it!!!!

I have not done much in the creative department this year.  I miss my studio but I try to make things work.  I did make a table topper and donated it to the Women's Club for the holiday luncheon.  My neighbor won it and I believe she was quite happy with it.   I had also donated a couple of wine bags for wine gifts, as well.

I'm looking forward to 2016 as a new beginning.  I signed up for a day long workshop at the local quilt shop with Gudrun Erla of GE Designs. I have followed her for several years so I was excited to sign up for the class.  It is at the end of January.

First, I'm going to take Beth Helfter's list to straighten up the space in January.  You can find the list on Facebook at EvaPaigeQuiltDesigns.  It is a good comprehensive list for tackling the chore and you can spend a couple of days on each task.  It starts with thread!  Easy peasy!!!

Of course, in the middle of all of this the hubby is remodeling the master bath.  There is the matter of a vanity and a linen shelf sitting smack dab in the middle of the room.  We have guests arriving on the 7th so that darn bathroom better be finished by then!!!

I'll have to take a before and after picture of the space.  Right now it is pretty awful.  I do have two big racks and I would like to downsize (actually, I want them gone) the heck out of those but I do have quite a bit of fabric and bins that are all filled with something.  Not to mention the other crafty non-quilting stuff I have.  It all has to fit in this room with the computer.  Electrical outlets are at a premium as well.  I suppose once I get it organized I will be able to focus.  It is quite impossible to focus right now.

I may have mentioned sometime this year that I was elected to the Homeowner's Association Board of Directors.  I am earmarked for Treasurer next year and that will involve some of my time as well.  Of course someone might not want me to be Treasurer.  That is okay with me, too.  I've got to find a little room for the Homeowner stuff as well.

My (lofty) goals for 2016 are to enjoy life, spend more time quilting (and shrinking the stash), get daily exercise (yep, the Fitbit has been in the drawer since around the end of January in 2015), spend more quality time with my husband (a challenge most of the time!!!).  Right now we must get that bathroom done.  Company next week!!!!

I've taken some pictures and will, hopefully, make another post of what's been going on here!
I started this 2 days ago and I'm finally going to publish it!

Happy New Year!!!

August!!!

Well..it has been quite some time since I have posted.  A lot of things have happened.

The hubby and I decided that we would put our lake home in New Hampshire on the market when we returned to NH for the summer.  We made the decision that we really like living here in Florida and having another home up north made no sense.

As for the community I live in, I have acquired the job of running the Craft Table at the Women's Bazaar in November.  I had one meeting prior to leaving for NH that was less than successful but I can only hope it goes up from there.

So we left for NH in mid-June.  We were home for two days trying to get the place ready to put on the market and someone came by.  A friend of a friend of a friend kind of thing.  I had mentioned to a lake neighbor that we would be putting the house on the market.  The next day we showed it to the wife.  That night they made an offer.  We utilized our real estate agent because I refuse to do things without one.  Too many things can go wrong.  So....long story short, we sold to this couple.  Everybody was happy; hugs all around at the closing, which was on July 30th.

We did not wish to live out of suitcases for the remainder of the summer so on August 1st we hit the road at 4 am.  We arrived back at our home on Sunday, August 2nd.  Tired, but happy to be home.  So now we truly are Florida residents (or...raisins, q-tips.  haha)  It is hot here but hey, that's why we have air conditioning!

Having issues with the iPad and the mail account app which now doesn't allow me to send my pics to my email.  Very frustrating.  It is apparently a google issue and not an apple issue.  I have tried to fix it but it just isn't happening.  I'll just keep reading the apple support group to see if anything new comes along.  I am not the only one with this issue.  Not sure if that is comforting or not!!!

I have not unpacked my sewing machine yet.  Honestly we have not even been back a full week yet and my husband is installing new patio slider doors.  He is doing the one to the kitchen and the next one will be in the computer/sewing room.  I think I will see when he is doing this room and perhaps that will determine whether the sewing machine comes out of its secure space.

I have lots of grand plans and hope to get to them very soon.  One thing I'd like to do is start a little stitch and bitch group.  Great therapy!  We shall see.  I have to talk to the HOA President (of course, I'm on the Board but....follow procedures!) and see about the ability to use the clubhouse for that kind of thing.  I know there are crafty people here and they might be interested.  I'm finding that I need more creative activity and I'm just not ready to join a guild here.  I am really not sure if I ever will be again.

So that's what is going on.  We do have lots of plans for the house.  We just need to update it a bit and make it more comfortable for us.  It is not his mother's house anymore!  Flooring is on order for the living and dining area and that will be a huge improvement.

Okay....that's it now.  Have a great weekend.
